The Nilgiri Mountain Railway is One of India’s Most Popular Toy Trains
The Nilgiri Mountain Railway toy train is the highlight of a visit to the popular hill station of Ooty, in south India’s Tamil Nadu state. Established in the early 19th century by the British as the summer headquarters of the Chennai government, Ooty now draws tourists wanting to escape the stifling summer heat.
The railway opened 1899, and was completed in 1908. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2005.
Journey was so scenic and surrounded by trees. Train passed through numerous tunnels. Luckily we got the last seat, so that I could cover the views 🙂
What are the different types of seats available in Ooty Nilgiri mountain toy train? Which seat is better to book in Ooty Nilgiri mountain toy train?which position of seats is better for the good view in the ooty toy train?
- There a 3 types of seats
- FC(Costly), 2S (reserved), Non reserved
- Basically FC & 2S are reserved and seats are same. FC seats are not that worth for the higher price. If you are fine with the price, you can give a try. You can see the difference from the below pics.
- Book tickets in advance, as there will huge rush in ticket counter.

How to book seats online in Ooty Nilgiri mountain toy train??
It is recommended to book tickets in advance from govt site https://www.irctc.co.in/ , as the rush will be high and waiting time will be long.
